Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 Printer Review
The Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 printer was released in October 2017 and is the latest version in the companies’ small wireless printer range. The SP-3 is the first wireless printer to use Fuji Square film and follows on from the recent launch of the Instax Square SQ10 hybrid instant camera.
What does the SP-3 printer do? It allows you to transform your favourite smart phone or Fujifilm “X” series camera photos into an instant photo, creating amazing memories and great gifts for friends and loved ones.
Instax Share SP-3 Printer Design
The SP-3 looks distinctly different from the SP-2 printer and Fuji have clearly moved away from the boring rectangular look of its predecessor and adopted a more angular, edgy design which admittedly may not be to everybody’s taste.
It is available in black and white, and retails at $199 at the time of writing.
SP-3 Printer Features
Using the (recently updated) Fujifilm Instax Share app you can print straight from your smart phone gallery or even direct from your Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox, Flickr or Google Photos account.
There’s also a new collage template which allows for up to nine photos per sheet and the option to add coloured text and other customisations. In addition to this, there are more than ten other templates ranging from CD jackets to magazine covers.
While these new additions are welcomed, they are certainly not perfect and the app experience still leaves much room for improvement with limited options for text and colour choices, for example.
The SP3 comes complete with a rechargeable battery, which is good for more than 100 prints on a single charge. What’s more, as there is no paper or ink required the Instax SP-3 makes an ideal travel companion.
SP3 Printer Performance
Printing quality is impressive, and each print is 2.4 by 2.4 inches (6 by 6 centimetres) with a 318 dpi resolution and print pixels of 800 by 800 dots.
The “Fujifilm Intelligence Filter” optimises your photo before printing to automatically choose the optimum brightness. We found this to be particularly effective for shots that were taken in low light as it brightened up the image just nicely.
The SP-3 has a new laser exposure system which means it now prints even faster than the SP-2. During testing of the SP-3 printer, we recorded printing times of between 10 and 13 seconds. It’s worth noting that this is significantly faster than the time it takes to print on an Instax Mini or Square camera.
Instax SP-3 Printer Verdict
The Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 printer offers a unique opportunity to convert your smartphone images to instant photos, and the fact that it now prints on Instax Square Film really enhances the experience because the photo size has increased quite noticeably from the Instax Mini Film that was used in the SP-2 printer.
With the latest improvements in the design, features, print quality and app experience we rate the SP-3 a 7 out of 10 and would recommend it to anyone looking for an instant wireless printer.
